A Group Fleet Procurement Manager role has been created for the successful applicant to join the Group Corporate Services team at our Corporate Headquarters in Linwood, Renfrewshire.

Malcolm Logistics is a leading independent provider of third-party logistics services across the UK. Focused on Intermodal Solutions, we offer fully integrated Road, Rail, Warehousing, and Bonded Warehousing services throughout the UK and have a long-established focus on operational and service quality which has earned a strong reputation within the industry.

Malcolm Construction provides comprehensive civil engineering and groundworks services. The Construction Services Division has 8 operating units, including recycling, landfill and contracting.

The Group Fleet Procurement Manager will assist the Group Chief Executive in all aspects of fleet activities including vehicle maintenance, managing driver training, negotiating with suppliers and ensuring optimal performance and reliability of the fleet.

Reports to: Group Chief Executive

Location: Linwood (Renfrewshire)

Position Overview

The role has been created due to the significant growth the Group has enjoyed since 2005 when the business went through a “Public to Private” transaction, being acquired by the Malcolm family. The role is based at the Malcolm Group Corporate Headquarters in Linwood, Renfrewshire. The role reports directly into the Group Chief Executive.

The newly created role represents a rare opportunity for a highly motivated, qualified Fleet Procurement Manager who wants to work in a large, family-owned business. The role will provide a strong career platform with an excellent opportunity for personal and professional development over the longer term as well as the mandate to shape and define how the role evolves.

The Group Fleet Procurement Manager will assist the Group Chief Executive in managing the Group’s large fleet of commercial vehicles, trailers, plant, vans, cars, Fork Lift Trucks and other mechanical equipment.

The Group’s fleet is one of the most modern in the sector and currently consists of among other items:

Artics - 400

Tippers - 70

Trailers - 1,500

Plant - 150

Cars/Vans - 300

Typical responsibilities of the job include:

• Recordkeeping – mostly electronic fleet management software, although there will likely be some physical copies of legal and vehicle documents involved.

• Working with the Group Fleet Engineer to analyse data from the Group’s fleet management software to minimize the whole life costs of our fleet.

• Business development – the Group Fleet Procurement Manager will be responsible for all external and internal customer relationships, but also for gaining new business for the Group’s 3rd party maintenance division.

Role Profile

The position incorporates a wide range of responsibilities requiring a confident individual with both technical fleet experience combined with significant commercial acumen. It is likely that the individual will have prior industry experience.

It is critical that the Group Fleet Procurement Manager can work closely with both senior management and our Group Fleet Engineer. Undoubtedly, this is a key appointment for Malcolm Group and the successful individual will play a key role in shaping the Group’s fleet management strategy over the medium to longer term. 

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

• Excellent IT and software skills and experience of modern fleet management software

• Up-to-date commercial vehicle knowledge will be essential

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with business acumen, pragmatism and a good sense of diplomacy

• Proven ability to build relationships at all levels

• Motivated self-starter with a flexible working attitude, a real focus on results and a completer/finisher by nature

• A strong team player, with a desire to make a significant contribution to the Group’s future fleet procurement strategy

• Flexible approach to working hours in line with the needs of the business

Remuneration

Highly competitive and dependant on experience.
